Pyramids of Bahariya in Egypt’s Crystal Mountain

It is a bit of a misnomer to call it Crystal Mountain since it is more of a huge Rock Ridge than a mountain, but it is nevertheless as spectacular as the name indicates.

Location:

Located on the outskirts of the White Desert in the Western Desert region, there is much to keep passing visitors entertained while they are on their Jeep excursions across the different deserts and Oases in the area.

What to see at Crystal Mountain includes the following attractions:

The crystals are often compared to what you could see in a Superman movie, with the quartz crystals attracting the greatest attention from tourists.

Of course, it is not permitted to break any crystals off the rock; but, there are usually little loose crystals lying on the sandy desert floor, which are picked up by passing tourists as they walk by.

In the rock itself, there is a naturally sculpted arch of Calcite crystal that is as tall as an adult man and is always regarded to be a focal point for photographic images.

Geologists believe that this is an exhumed cave, a cave replete with stalagmites and stalactites that have been forced upwards by earth movement and, over time, has lost its ceiling to erosion and has almost completely faded away, according to the experts.

The calcite crystal is a kind of mineral.
