Egypt’s Luxor Museum

Egypt’s Luxor Museum is conveniently placed along a rebuilt section of the Corniche, within walking distance of the city’s center and Karnak temple complex.

While it is far smaller than the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, it has several magnificent Pharaonic items that are not seen anywhere else.

Among the sights to take in are the following:

That this Museum of Antiquities exists is a rare and wonderful discovery.

It is excellently exhibited against a black backdrop to bring out the greatest aspects of the collection of sculptures and artifacts discovered in nearby tombs and temples, which are all housed here.

There are several noteworthy pieces, including a startlingly beautiful statue of an eternally youthful King Tuthmosis III, an astonishing figure of Amenhotep III, which is carried by the crocodile God Sobek, and furnishings from Tutankhamun’s Tomb.

Several sculptures from the famous cache of statues discovered beneath Luxor Temple a few years ago, including Ramses II and Tutankhamun, are also shown in this hall, which may be reached by going to the left as you enter.

A new wing devoted to the glories of Thebes during the New Kingdom era is a fascinating addition to the museum.
