What should you do in Egypt’s the Red Sea and the Sinai Peninsula?

Dive the Red Sea with us!

The Red Sea is one of the most stunning diving destinations on the planet, and the resorts along its western coast provide a diverse selection of dive sites and experiences.

There are more than 30 diving opportunities in El Gouna alone, which include wrecks and coral reefs. In addition, it is the nearest resort to the infamous Thistlegorm shipwreck.

Underwater coral gardens and enormous gorgonians, as well as coral reef islands off the coast of Hurghada, may be found in the surrounding area.

Large Napoleon fish, sea turtles, moray eels, sharks, groupers, rainbow wrasses, and butterfly fish are just some of the marine creatures you could see when snorkeling in the Bahamas.

Monasteries in the Eastern Desert

Ain Sukhna is an excellent base from which to explore the Eastern Desert and its medieval monasteries, which are located nearby.

Despite the fact that they are not as well-known as St Catherine‘s in the Sinai, they are equally as interesting and historically important.

St Anthony’s Monastery, located about 90 minutes from Ain Sukhna, was established in 356AD and is the world’s oldest operational monastery.

St Paul’s Monastery, which is close by, is estimated to have been built in the 5th century.

In the southern Red Sea highlands, near Za’farana, are two massive walled complexes, one of which is a fortified city. A visit to the Suez Canal might potentially be included as part of a day excursion.

Desert-related activities

The enormous swaths of desert that stretch out beyond the Red Sea are an action-packed adventure zone just begging to be discovered and experienced.

You can take half-day or full-day excursions into the desert from Hurghada, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay, El Gouna, and other resorts, where you can try camel or horse riding, quad biking, sand sailing, a 4×4 desert safari, a visit to a Bedouin village, smoke a traditional hookah water pipe and enjoy a barbeque dinner under the stars after watching the sunset.

It is also feasible to go from Cairo to Luxor in a single day by crossing the desert.

Island hopping is a popular pastime.

Take a boat to one of the numerous outlying islands in the Red Sea for a day excursion or an evening sunset and barbeque cruise on the water. Keep an eye out for dolphins along the route.

Boat tours depart from Hurghada towards islands such as Giftun, a magnificent national park island group where guests may relax on a peaceful, sandy beach and enjoy the day swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing.

If you want to add a romantic touch to your vacation, you may rent a sailing boat in El Gouna and go exploring secluded coves and uninhabited islands.

Tobia Island, which is accessible by boat from Soma Bay, is a tiny, sandy island that is popular for tourist boat cruises.
